Indescribable Beauty

The Rocky Mountains cannot be described with words or photos; they must be experienced. (But we will give it a try.)

Our first two nights in Moraine Park Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park we had a spectacular view of Long’s Peak.

The park was very busy and the campgrounds were pretty much full when made our reservations, so we were not able to get four consecutive nights in one campground. The last two nights we were at Glacier Basin Campground, another nice campground but our view was not as impressive.

Not quite acclimated or conditioned, we chose Bear Lake and Alberta Falls for our first hike; a total of about 2 ½ easy miles.

Our second day of hiking led us to the Sprague Lake/Glacier Creek Loop, another easy trail due to ABN’s allergy ambush (and the altitude induced tachycardia.)

Sprague  Lake
One day we drove Fall River Road ,

stopping at Chasm Falls

to Trail Ridge Road.

The weather was quite cooperative. We woke with temps between 35° - 40°, quickly rising to the mid-60s; perfect for hiking. Usually in the afternoon we would have a brief rain shower. One day it was a hail storm.

We had a wonderful visit with a couple of our grandparent counterparts, Dave and Loretta. They joined us for Tipsy Tuesday

and invited us to join their Green Flag Friday;

very similar to Tipsy Tuesday except they gather on the first Friday of every month, rotating hosts. Unfortunately ABN’s allergy symptoms were full blown and she had to decline. Captain accepted the invitation and had a very enjoyable evening with interesting folks.

Today as we wandered across western Colorado we were awed with the beauty. The aspens were brilliant.

The next two days will be pretty boring as we crosss the high desert toward California. Past experiences tell us we will have intermittent cell service. When we have a chance, we will check for messages.

Colorado, we have arrived!

Three days, miles and miles of Missouri and Nebraska farmland (that would be cornfields and milo),
two Walmart stays, a stop in Ogallala, NB,
a bit of stitching,
No, it still isn't finished.
a lot of reading and a little Rest Stop Yoga
 (this is for you, Suzie.)
we made it to Loveland, CO.

Once again, we caught up with our dear friends, Mickey and Billie, and took a little trip down memory lane.
They introduced us to The Rear of the Steer
Really good hamburgers!
and to the mega sporting goods store, Scheels
Yep, that is an indoor Ferris Wheel .

Ronnie, Abe and Thomas were there.

After saying good-bye to Mickey and Billie, (and Ronnie, Abe and Thomas) we are off to the SevenPeaks Musical Festival in Buena Vista. In our minds we are thinking Woodstock country style.

We expect to be pretty much off the grid for the next few weeks. We will check for messages when we can find cell service.
