Free!

We have served our 14 day confinement and we are free! Well, actually we are on probation; if we break the rules, Sheriff Governor Andy may return us to house arrest quarantine or worse. (In the event you did not see our last post, since we had been traveling, we were ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days on our return. We couldn’t see any evidence that the order was being enforced, but it seemed like a reasonable thing to do to protect our community.)

For the most part, quarantine wasn’t much different from other times when returning from our winter trip. We unloaded and cleaned The Wanderer, did load after load of laundry, read and responded to Christmas cards (yes, we left before Christmas,) moved plants in and out of the greenhouse,

mowed the lawn, did some repairs on our old vintage house (which is pretty much routine,) watched Jeopardy, filed our income taxes and tackled the weedy garden.

Because of COVID-19, there were some differences. Our traditional Sunday family dinner was a Zoom visit, Tipsy Tuesday was a Facebook event and there has not been a visit to our neighborhood brewery. ABN has Miss Wilma (that would be her little 1953 Featherweight sewing machine) setting on the dining room table where she is making masks for family and friends.

How did we spend our first day of freedom? Captain installed a new tow bar on The Wanderer, picked up a wine shipment, picked up 30 bags of mulch and spent 45 minutes in a parking lot with other hungry people waiting for our online ordered, curbside pick-up pizza. ABN spent most of the day in the garden, planting this, moving that while daydreaming and planning.

Oh, she did make a few masks which will be shipped to College Station. And we watched Jeopardy. For us, life is pretty much like always but we do miss personal contact with our friends.

We are moving forward cautiously but with optimism.

Phase 3, Quarantined

After 10 days social distancing (Phase 1) in Arizona’s beautiful Catalina State Park, we spent the past 5 days in The Wanderer, stepping out only to pump gas. Here are some of the highlights of Quarantine Phase 2.

Having been there before, we knew their wines. We called in our order, the wine was waiting for us by the gate.

Jointly reading a great book for these times. Note, Dr. Anthony Fauci is frequently referenced.

Harvest Host stay at a Ford Dealership in Desota, TX

We were able to bust through the blockade as we entered Kentucky. To ABN’s relief, we were not stopped at the border.

Per Governor Andy Beshear’s order, since we have been out of state, we are now in quarantine for 14 days. Phase 3 begins!
