saluti dall'Italia

Greetings from Italy!

A nine hour flight from Chicago, we arrived in Rome around 9:30 a.m. (That would be 2:30 a.m. CST.)

after a stop to explore Orvieto,

Our bus took us to Villa Laura, our home base for the next week.

Didn't take Captain long to find the wine cellar!

Blogging on the iPad is a bit of a challenge, please excuse inconsistencies. Also we once again have a very slow internet making the upload of photos limited. We will do our best to keep you informed of our Italy travels.

What a fun filled week!

After experiencing a Quilting Bee-hive of activity,

joining our friends for Tipsy Tuesday on our patio,

attending the slowest and most boring 30 minutes of sports in history, (the PaDucky Derby,)

and exploring our charming town, our South Carolina friends are on their way home.

So, what is it like to spend a week with two nuclear engineers? Have you ever watched Big Bang Theory? (Penny, I feel your pain, ABN!)

On to our next adventure, ciao Italia!

It is Quilt Week in Quilt City!

This is the week our entire town is turned over to quilters from throughout the world. We happily hand them our  restaurants, our streets, our hotels and our guest rooms.

Our town will more than double in population this week. We will have more visitors than our hotels and those within an hour's drive can accommodate. So we have an opportunity to play Bed and Breakfast and help our favorite non-profit. Registering with the convention and tourism bureau, we can rent our guest room out for the week. Since we are not zoned for business, this can only be done during Quilt Week and proceeds must be donated to a non-profit. We participated as hosts and met the nicest ladies from northern Illinois. The same group returned to stay with us for a total of 8 years. After Captain retired we felt it was time to disengage from the fund raising Bed and Breakfast venture so we could invite our quilter friends.

This week we are delighted to hosts our good friends from South Carolina. Carol and Lee, your room is ready!

Now that we are home,

what are we doing?

As you can imagine, there is PLENTY for us to do!

Like repairing a water leak,

tackling weeds,

sprucing up neglected spaces,
Before

After

preparing for guests,
Captain making a headboard for guest room.

and catching up with friends.

As much as we love traveling, our home gives our souls that much needed sense of familiarity and belonging. As we prepare for spring and summer, we do so with anticipation.  Whether it is in our guest room, at our dining table, on the porch or in the garden, it is our joy to provide a place of comfort and relaxation for our family and friends. We hope y'all enjoy being here as much as we enjoy having you!
