Found our niche?

Maybe. We sure did enjoy our stay in Lake Mead Natural Recreation Area. With a beautiful view of Lake Mead from the campground,
Boulder Beach Campground
daily visits from the local hummers,

31 mile multi-purpose trail,

near perfect weather,

nearby hiking trails and only a few miles from the small town of Boulder City (where ABN thinks she would be comfortable driving) we think we could be content here for maybe a month. If we were to become bored, well Las Vegas is only 21 miles away!

While Captain continued to recover from over hiking at Picacho Peak, ABN explored the multi-purpose trail and hiked the Historic Railroad Trail.

Historic Railroad Trail

View along the trail.

One of five tunnels on the trail.

The railroad was built in the 1930’s to facilitate the building of Hoover Dam.  Now it is a well maintained easy 3.3 mile trail from the trail head to the dam which gave ABN a nice 7 mile hike.
(Yes, we can do simple math, but if you know ABN, you know there is a reason why her walks, hikes and bike rides usually end up a bit longer than expected.)

Look who we found roaming around the Nevada desert!

Shirlee, ABN, Captain, Shirlee's sister Mary and her good friend Lisa
Our friend, Shirlee, who lives in Montana. Needing a break from the harsh Montana winter, she headed to Mesquite, NV for a few weeks. We laughed, told (actually re-told) stories from all the adventures we shared over the years, then laughed some more. At the end of the day we agreed “we are all a bit different but some are more different than others.”  (If you were a part of these adventures, you know what we mean.) Plans are being made to meet up again next year, same time, same place and create some more memories.

This week we are spending some quiet time in the desert in California.

Had a blast!

at the 31st annual Western Winter Blast in Lake Havasu, Arizona.

Camped at the SARA Park Rodeo Grounds with 200-300 RVs, we had a great view of the Western Pyrotechnics Show.

Fireworks, campfires, live music, near perfect weather and a diverse bunch of RVers

Interesting group of Wander Lodge  RV's

Gin and Scotch (aka Ginny and Scott) embarking on a 9 month road trip in their Casita.

from throughout the country and Canada,
Didn't see another Kentucky plate.
was the perfect venue for a week of recovery for Captain. (He is improving daily and his complaining is down to a minimum.)
While he rested his aching muscles, ABN walked around the rodeo grounds talking to interesting folks and did a bit of hiking.

We couldn’t be in Lake Havasu City and not see the original London Bridge

The bridge built in London in the 1830s was dismantled and moved to Lake Havasu in 1967. Robert P. McCulloch, founder of Lake Havasu City, bought the bridge for a tourist attraction.

Currently we are hanging out in Nevada before wandering over to southern California.

Let the Adventure Continue

ad·ven·ture

1
a: an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks

          b: the encountering of risks

2:       an exciting or remarkable experience

Starting our Winter 2020 Adventure, we had definition # 2 in mind. However when Captain saw it (the peak he did not summit 4-years ago) he just had to try.

Picacho Peak

So, off we go on the 6-mile Sunset Vista trail

Lot's of poppies along the trail.

Wisely, ABN turned around after about 2 miles and enjoyed a leisurely hike back to the trailhead.

Captain continued the 1- mile hike to the top

The Details

This particular adventure concluded with a trip to the ambulatory clinic in Apache Junction and a week of rest, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, heat compresses and a slight change in our planned agenda. Feeling pleased that he made it; Captain has come to the realization that his body is older than he thought and maybe he should prepare a bit more for future challenges.

Look what pulled into the campsite next to us in Picacho State Park!

We had passed and waved/honked at this look-alike twice when we were in Texas.

Meeting folks is what truly feeds our soul when traveling and Debbie certainly didn’t disappoint.

Recently retired from the film industry in Los Angeles, she is currently exploring the country solo, full-time in her 2003 Lazy Daze, We had a delightful conversation and look forward to meeting up with her next month at the Lazy Daze Gathering in Moro Bay, California.

With our change of plans, we spent a few days in a commercial campground in Apache Junction to give Captain’s sore muscles a chance to recover. With ABN’s sister, Mary and husband, Steve,

we took a little day cruise on Canyon Lake.

Captain continues to improve so let the adventure west continue.

We never tire of the colorful Arizona sunsets!
